Snader Success Story: Image Movers Digital

Snader and Associates teamed with Diversified Systems, Inc. to create a new high-tech production home for famed 3D and motion-capture filmmaker Robert Zemeckis and his crew at Image Movers Digital.

Robert Zemeckis’ Image Movers Digital is famous for creating motion-capture masterpieces derived from literary and cinematic classics such as Beowulf and A Christmas Carol.  When IMD needed new digs, what better place to echo their ‘past comes alive’ modern marvels than two retro-fitted WWII airplane hangars?  And who better to design and integrate the technology needed in the $20+ million production and post-production fantasy-making facility than a dream team of Snader and Associates and Diversified Systems, Inc.!

Still standing on the property as a reminder of the building’s history and perhaps as an iconic beacon looking toward the future, the original control tower now looms over a Snader-designed multi-faceted facility housing a theater, 2 ‘dailies’ screening rooms, editorial and stereoscopic suites, 10 conference rooms, a training room, and a cozy-yet-modern café-torium where IMD staffers can relax and revel in their company’s ‘work + play’ corporate culture.

The Snader/Diversified team provided Crestron systems to schedule the conference rooms and control the state-of-the-art audio-visual features, while engineers integrated the building’s entire fiber and network infrastructure, featuring Evertz routing systems, and outfitted an easy-access equipment room.  Designed specifically for production of 3D films, the facility takes advantage of new technology based around mo-cap needs from acquisition and editing software and displays, to signal flow, routing and management of digital assets.  Specialized equipment includes Christie CP2000ZX projectors with triple flash 3D; Cine-tal broadcast monitors; and Panasonic 50” and 65” displays.  Post-production needs are met with Avid Media Composer workflow capability and Unity storage systems.

IMD’s new facility is perhaps most unique in that it brings together ALL disciplines involved in creating digital cinema -- editorial, audio-visual, scheduling and control -- in a highly sophisticated, yet user-friendly environment.  The building allows IMD to expand their capabilities in Northern California and to address the needs of their growing market.

Team engineers pulled off a little movie magic of their own by designing and integrating the highly complex buildings to be occupant-ready in nine short months … from opening music to final credits.
